About the Course

Welcome to the Online MN Permit to Carry (Hybrid) Course. This course covers the classroom training of the MN Permit to Carry a handgun. Gain the knowledge you need to pass the classroom test and proceed to the live-fire range qualification at the Hero Center shooting range in Cottage Grove, Minnesota.  Prepare yourself for responsible handgun ownership and the legal requirements for carrying a firearm. Whether this is your first time obtaining your permit to carry or you are renewing your current permit, everyone is required to take the same course. Enroll now to start your journey towards obtaining your MN Permit to Carry. Important to note: According to MN State Statute, 624.714 Subd. 2a. Training in safe use of a pistol.  (a) An applicant must present evidence that the applicant received training in the safe use of a pistol within ONE YEAR of the date of an original or renewal application.

Step 1: Register & Complete  Online Learning Course

Register and complete the classroom portion of the MN Permit to Carry course from the comfort of your home or office with our hybrid online learning environment. Permit renewals must take the same course due to the required content. 

Step 2: LIVE Range Qualification  (In-person)

Qualify with your firearm at the HERO Shooting range to complete the necessary requirements to obtain your MN Permit to Carry training certificate. This portion is done after you complete the online training requirements. You will schedule your range qualification with the HERO Center. 

Step 3: Certificate of Completion (Receive after range qualification)

Receive your (required) training certificate to submit with your application for your permit to carry to your local county sheriff's office. This certificate is valid for 1- year from issuance. You will receive this certificate after you complete the mandatory in-person range qualification at the HERO Center.
